COMMANDMENTS OF BEING A VOLUNTEER LEADER IN THE ORANGE ELEMENTARY PTA
- Welcome new
people; be friendly, encourage participation.
- Give clear job expectations and timelines.
- Be organized. Be respectful of your volunteers' time.
- Delegate the work fairly.
- Expect that you will have to give your volunteers reminder calls.
- Promptly return phone calls or emails from your
volunteers.
- Make sure your volunteers have real work to do;
don't make them show up if there isn't a need.
- Be responsive to suggestions by your volunteers.
- Always speak to your volunteers politely.
- If there is a problem, don't play the "blame
game"; focus on a solution.
- If someone outside your volunteer group is
critical of your efforts, politely remind them
that
we are all volunteers, and sincerely ask if she
has a suggestion or would like to work with you
on a solution.
- At the end of the project, send a personal thank
you (not an email) to your volunteers.
